DJ Shotski at Rosemount, MN Oktoberfest
Rosemount, Minnesota is a growing community south of the Twin Cities. Though its namesake is Montrose in Ireland (even Rosemount law enforcement officers have shamrocks on their uniform sleeves), this Minnesota town knows how to throw a polka party.
I rolled in to the sounds of the Dale Pexa Band from New Market, MN. The band can play a little of everything, but they stuck to the concertina polka bangers. They generously let me hop on their PA system to use for my set and after working through some technical difficulties (a flipped GFCI breaker wasn’t on my mental diagnostics list), I got started playing the music I love.
I got to be the impromptu caller and judge for a lederhosen contest (some folks really brought their BEST German style, for sure). The event organizers gave me an extra brewery gift certificate to give away, so I decided to ask parents to teach their kids how to do the chicken dance. The best chicken dance got the brewery certificate for their accompanying adult. The dance floor was packed!

We kept the polka party going until it was dark and the parking lot lights came on. Big thanks to the City of Rosemount, the food truck and local brewery vendors, and the Dale Pexa Band for making it a really wonderful and lively event for neighbors and families to get together for an afternoon of fun.
